Jacobin is a leading voice of the American left. The print magazine is released quarterly and reaches over 30,000 subscribers, in addition to a web audience of 1,000,000 a month.
Every few years, Jacobin releases a holiday call-to-action. I was hired to create a stop motion animation that used physical elements of the magazine as well as original hand-crafted paper puppets and set pieces. Using a hand-built multi-plane downshooter, I animated each scene emerging from pages of Jacobin essays and articles. This created a burrowing effect, as if the viewer were digging through the pages of the magazine, much like a reader does with a good book. (December 2018)
